In light of the recent weather we’ve had her in central Texas, I think this blog post is a Must Read.
As Texans, we are used to sunny one day, and black skies and rolling thunder the next. That can make scheduling your session difficult if you have your heart set on a bright, warm, sunny day. You’re probably thinking that sunshine is the best weather to get your dream photos. But what *is* the best weather for your session? My honest answer?
Any kind of weather is the best weather!
Both sunny, and cloudy weather have *amazing* pros, but, of course, they also have their cons. So let’s talk about them!
Let’s start with cloudy weather. Since most people believe clouds are a death sentence for dreamy photos, I’m going to debunk that myth. Cloudy weather can help produce some jaw dropping images. The clouds act as a diffuser. This means they spread the light evenly across the sky, which gives me the opportunity to utilize many spots in a given location that I wouldn’t be able to use otherwise, therefore your finally gallery will have a wide variety of back drops (which is a HUGE win in my book!) The only downside to cloudy weather, at least in my opinion, is the lack of dreamy back lighting… But it is small price to pay! Want another bonus to cloudy weather?! The temperature is *typically* lower due to the shade, so your session will feel more comfortable.

Take this shot from a mini session with the Haycock family as an example. Initially, Jessica was super worried about the weather because she had her heart set on a sunny day. But after I explained the pros of a cloudy day, she agreed to keep her session date, and it was *so worth it!* Look at how cute they turned out! In the end Jess was over the moon for her final images, and has them hanging up on the walls of her home to this day. So, if your ideal session date happens to be cloudy.. there is no need to stress! You will still get absolutely stunning photos!
On the other hand, there’s sunny weather. Everyones dream come true! Well, most peoples dream come true. Let’s get the cons out of the way first. With sunny skies, our backdrop options tend to be limited, and it is typically hotter when the sun is shining down directly on you. But there are ways to combat that, and I’ve put all those tips & tricks into a blog post that you can read here! Now for the pros! That stunningly dreamy back lighting, of course! As well as an overall glow to the images that you can’t quite get with an overcast. You simply cannot go wrong with a warm and bright sunny session.

Now you might be thinking.. “Riley, what about wind? What about rain?!”
Believe it or not a soft gust of wind can add a lot to your images! It can help add movement to a photo, and that is never a bad thing. However, rain can get a little tricky. You are probably spending a ton of time on hair and makeup and rain can quickly destroy all of that hard work. Don’t worry, if your original date now has a storm in the forecast, we can move that date, no problem!
“What if it starts raining during my session!?”
Surprise rain in the middle of a session can feel like the end of the world in the moment, but don’t worry! We will schedule a new session on a different date, to finish your session so you can get your full gallery!
So there you have it! No matter the weather, dreamy photos are 100% guaranteed when you book with me! I hope this blog helped you feel more empowered, and will help you make a more educated decision when booking your session.
